A vibrant exhibition, bringing the elements of the Amazon to Paris in an abstract yet immersive way. Designed for Echoes of the Amazon, a solo exhibition by Gleeson Paulino, curated by Marie Gomis-Tresize of Galerie Gomis.
For this exhibition we translated the textures, materials and colours of the Amazon into a spatial experience as an extension of Gleeson Paulino’s photography. Reed sculptures in clean organic shapes echo the fluid rhythms of the rainforest, tropical padouk wood reflects the vitality and fundamental presence of the Amazon in the world while hand-dyed fabric in vibrant tones breaks up the space, forging a connection between the artwork and its environment. Each material was chosen to reflect the deep relationship between nature and Indigenous culture.
The whole exhibition is designed and built with left-over and reclaimed materials that can be reused or recycled after the exhibition. By integrating these elements, the exhibition invites visitors to see the Amazon but to feel its presence, bridging the gap between image, experience, collective memory and place.
